Emergency Effort Rescues Over 40 Horses from Flooded Stables at Malaga Equestrian Club
Emergency services, volunteers, and local workers rallied to save more than 40 horses in a dramatic rescue operation at the Malaga Equestrian Club, where a flooded stream near the club on Camino de los Almendrales put the animals in serious danger.
The stream, which overflowed its banks, surged into the stables, rapidly filling them with water. With levels rising and 41 horses trapped in their stalls, the situation quickly escalated. Firefighters, Local Police officers, and members of the Grupona animal welfare unit arrived on-site, joined by nearby construction workers who brought battery-powered tools crucial for breaking open the stable doors in the absence of electricity.
In addition to the horses, 40 dogs housed at the club were also rescued during the operation. Volunteers and emergency responders worked swiftly to lead the horses to an elevated area on the property, ensuring their safety as the floodwaters continued to rise. The animals, although visibly distressed, were ultimately saved from harm.
Concerned members of the public expressed frustration, noting that preventative measures could have been taken in light of severe weather forecasts. In addition to the animal rescues, the club grounds were heavily impacted, with water damage affecting facilities and washing out the road connecting the property to the main road.
Despite the challenges, the successful rescue highlighted the community’s quick response and the power of collaboration during emergencies.
