During the August long holiday weekend, with half of Spain on vacation and the Malaga Feria drawing in hundreds of thousands of visitors, high temperatures have made a return to the province. This is typical for summer on the Costa del Sol, where temperatures often exceed 30°C throughout the day.
However, this week starting, August 18, the heat is expected to intensify. Spain's state weather agency (Aemet) has issued amber and yellow alerts for high temperatures, in effect from 1pm to 9pm.
The amber alert, indicating significant risk, applies to the metropolitan area of Malaga, the western part of the Costa del Sol, and the Guadalhorce Valley, where temperatures could reach up to 38°C and locally exceed 39°C. The hot 'terral' wind is expected to drive up temperatures in Malaga, particularly in the morning, according to local expert Jose Luis Escudero.
