Muslims Take Shelter as Far-Right Protesters Attack Southport Mosque

Worshippers were forced to take shelter in the Southport Mosque and Islamic Centre on Tuesday night as far-right protesters attempted to set fire to the building.

Approximately half a dozen members of the mosque were advised to wait for a police escort as a mob attacked the property. The police reported being assaulted with bottles, bricks, bins, and other missiles, while a van was set ablaze amidst the chaos that erupted in the seaside town.

Authorities suspect that the demonstrators, believed to be affiliated with the English Defence League, initiated the disorder outside the mosque in response to the recent tragic killing of three children at a nearby holiday camp.

The victims of the knife attack, which occurred at a holiday club on Monday, were identified yesterday as six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar.

The violence in Southport has shocked the community, prompting calls for calm and unity in the face of such tragic events. Police are continuing their investigation into both the attack at the holiday camp and the unrest at the mosque.
