Baby’s Remains Discovered Near M61 in Salford, Police Investigating

The remains of a baby have been discovered on land near a motorway in Salford, prompting a major investigation by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Emergency services were called to Ashtons Field in Little Hulton at around 1:00 PM GMT after a passer-by reported finding the remains. GMP confirmed that detectives are working alongside other agencies to determine the baby's identity, the circumstances of their death, and how long the remains had been at the site.

Ongoing Investigation

In a statement, GMP said, “At this stage, we are following several lines of inquiry and are working with local partner agencies to understand who this baby could be, how long they have been there, and how they have sadly died.

“This is an extremely sensitive investigation, and we are handling it with the utmost care. It will take time to establish the facts.

“We know that this news will devastate our communities, and while we do not yet have all the answers, we want to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to find out what has happened here.

“The most important thing for us right now is to find answers for this baby. We urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward.”

GMP also appealed for any information regarding individuals seen in the area over the past few days or any details that could lead to identifying the parents.

Cordon and Emergency Presence

A large police cordon has been set up around the area, which is located near the M61 motorway, as emergency services continue to investigate. One entrance to the Linnyshaw Loop line and Ashtons Field was seen to be blocked off by officers at the scene.

Authorities have assured the public that further details about the circumstances will be released when they are in a position to confirm them.

The discovery has shocked the local community, and police are urging anyone with information to contact them as soon as possible.
