Concerns Raised Over Hospital Care of Former Footballer Kevin Campbell
An inquest has revealed concerns regarding the hospital care of former Arsenal and Everton footballer Kevin Campbell. The 54-year-old passed away on June 15 at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), where he had been admitted a month earlier.
During the opening of the inquest on Thursday, Manchester area coroner Zac Golombek disclosed that Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, which oversees MRI, had flagged a Level 5 patient safety incident—the most serious category—pertaining to aspects of Campbell's care.
The preliminary cause of death for Mr. Campbell was identified as multi-organ failure resulting from a heart infection.
No family members attended the hearing at Manchester Coroner’s Court as Mr. Golombek provided these initial details.
