Death Toll Rises to over 200 in Spain’s Devastating Floods as Charities and Communities Rally to Help

With the death toll reaching 95 and dozens of people still missing after the severe DANA (or "gota fría") storm devastated the Valencian region and affected other parts of Spain, charities and community groups are coming together to provide urgent relief.

Thousands of residents have lost their homes and belongings, and many families are still waiting for news of missing loved ones. In response, Spain has declared three days of national mourning beginning on October 31. However, experts warn that more rain may be on the way, meaning travel could soon become even more difficult.

Here’s how to help or get involved in relief efforts:

Collection Points for Clothes, Blankets, and Food

Providing warmth and food is critical for those affected. The following locations in Valencia are accepting donations:

  • Torrent: C/ del Sol, 1 – Needed: Warm clothes and blankets
  • Riba-roja de Túria: CEIP Cervantes, C/Metge Fleming, 2 – Needed: Clothes and blankets
  • Valencia: C/ San Juan Bosco, 48 – Needed: Food, clothes, and essential items

  • Where: Institut Luis Vives de Valencia, C/Xàtiva, 11
  • When: 11:00 to 21:00 daily

Aid for Chiva

The town of Chiva has been one of the hardest-hit areas, with entire neighborhoods flooded and homes submerged. The local government is seeking heavy equipment to assist with cleanup and recovery:

  • What is Needed: Trailers, tractors, backhoes, and similar equipment
