High Speed Car Chase Across Spain's Costa Del Sol

A high-speed police chase spanning over 40 kilometers on the Costa del Sol ended in Nerja with four officers injured and two police vehicles damaged. The dramatic pursuit unfolded on Saturday, December 14, beginning in the Carabanchel neighborhood of Vélez-Málaga and concluding in Nerja’s town center.

The incident began when a National Police patrol noticed a car speeding through Vélez-Málaga. Upon spotting the police, the driver accelerated further, prompting officers to pursue the vehicle while calling for backup.

The chase wound through the town center of Vélez-Málaga before continuing along the main coastal road. Patrol cars from multiple units joined the effort, with the pursuit extending into Nerja, covering a distance of more than 40 kilometers.

Chase Ends in Collision

The chase came to a chaotic conclusion on Avenida Mayor Antonio Villasclaras in Nerja, where police vehicles blocked the suspect’s path. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the driver rammed into the police cars, injuring four officers and causing significant damage to two vehicles.

The suspect, who was arrested at the scene, faces multiple charges, including offenses against road safety, assault, injury, and property damage. Authorities revealed the driver did not have a valid license and had a prior police record.

Serious Safety Concerns

The reckless behavior of the suspect not only endangered law enforcement officers but also posed a significant risk to the public. A police spokesperson emphasized the gravity of the situation: "This kind of disregard for safety puts countless lives at risk. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our officers, the suspect was apprehended before the situation escalated further."

The injured officers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Community Outrage

Local residents have expressed concern over the dangers posed by such reckless actions. “It’s terrifying to think this kind of chase could happen in a busy area like Nerja,” one witness said.

The suspect now faces serious legal repercussions as the authorities work to ensure accountability for his actions. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks police face daily in protecting the public from harm.
