The lives of prisoners are being put at risk by dangerous prison van drivers, with alarming reports surfacing of reckless driving on the motorway. GEOAmey, the company contracted to transport prisoners between courts and prisons, is accused of breaching traffic laws and endangering public safety.
A prison transport van, which can carry up to eight prisoners in individual cells, was filmed lane-hogging in the middle lane at 60 MPH, blocking traffic and swerving dangerously between lanes. The reckless driving forced cars and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to maneuver dangerously close to the van, sparking outrage over the safety risks posed to both the prisoners and other road users.
Eyewitnesses have described the van’s behaviour as "reckless," with one driver saying, “It was swerving dangerously close to cars and HGV trucks, showing no regard for the safety of anyone on the road.”
The footage raises serious concerns about GEOAmey's adherence to safety protocols, with many questioning whether their drivers are adequately trained to ensure the safe and secure transport of prisoners.
Campaigners have called for an investigation into GEOAmey’s driving standards, with some urging the government to review the company’s contract. “If they’re transporting prisoners in this way, it shows a complete lack of care for their lives, and for everyone else’s on the road,” said a spokesperson for Safe Roads UK.
As the footage circulates online, authorities are being pressured to take action, ensuring that prisoners, along with fellow motorists, are not exposed to unnecessary dangers while on the roads.
Meanwhile on the Company website they state: '
'Our purpose is to be there for people in our custody and care, our customers and, of course, each other'
Although from the video footage that doesn't appear to be the case when on the motorways of the UK.
