Residents of Crime-Ridden Talbot Green Demand South Wales Police Focus on Crime Prevention

Frustrated residents of Talbot Green, a small town in South Wales, are calling for South Wales Police to shift their focus back to preventing crime rather than merely responding to incidents after they occur. The community, which has seen a sharp rise in murder, police attacked and stabbed, burglaries, anti-social behaviour, and vandalism as well as daily drug dealing in recent times, claims that the current policing strategy is failing to address the root causes of crime, leaving them feeling unsafe in their own homes.

Talbot Green, once considered a quiet and family-friendly area, has become a hotspot for criminal activity, with locals reporting frequent break-ins, stolen vehicles, and intimidation by groups of youths who deal drugs openly on the Welsh towns streets.

Many residents argue that the police are too often seen arriving after the fact, taking statements, and filing reports, rather than proactively patrolling the streets or engaging with the community to deter criminal behaviour.

“It feels like the police are just here to clean up the mess after the crime has already happened,” said Sarah Evans, a long-time resident and mother of two. “We need them to be visible, to be out there preventing these incidents before they occur. Right now, it’s like they’ve given up on us.”

The sentiment is echoed by other members of the community, including local business owners who have been targeted by thieves. A local shopkeeper, who runs a convenience store on the high street, said his shop has been broken into three times in the past year. “Every time, the police come, take a report, and that’s it. Nothing changes. We need a stronger presence to stop this from happening in the first place,” he said.

Residents argue that these measures are not enough and are calling for a more visible police presence, including regular patrols and  dedicated officers for the area.

A Local councillor has backed the residents’ demands, urging South Wales Police to prioritize crime prevention. “We cannot allow Talbot Green to become a town where crime is normalized. The police need to listen to the community and take decisive action to restore safety and confidence,” she said.

As tensions rise, residents are organizing a public meeting to discuss their concerns with police representatives and local officials. They hope to find a solution that will not only address the immediate crime wave but also rebuild trust between the community and law enforcement.

For now, the people of Talbot Green remain vigilant, but they are clear in their message: they want their town back, and they want South Wales Police to focus on preventing crime, not just responding to it.
