British Boxer Sunny Edwards Triumphs Over Adrian Curiel Despite Suffering Nasty Cut

Arizona, USA - British boxer Sunny Edwards emerged victorious against Mexico's Adrian Curiel on Saturday night, despite sustaining a significant cut above his right eye from a clash of heads. The fight, held in Arizona, marked Edwards' first bout since his December defeat to Jesse Rodriguez, his only loss in his professional career.

The 28-year-old from London, visibly battered but determined, secured the win via a unanimous technical decision. The fight was stopped early by the referee due to the severity of the cut, which was deemed accidental. The judges’ scorecards read 90-82, 88-84, and 87-85 in favor of Edwards, granting him the 21st win in his 22-fight pro career.

Edwards faced boos from the crowd following the decision. Addressing the audience, he said, "I don't know if the crowd realizes what happened there. The doctor stopped the fight because of the cut, it wasn't my decision. I'm more upset than any of the 10,000 fans here."

Reflecting on the fight, Edwards expressed confidence in his performance, saying, "I thought I was clear ahead and I thought my opponent was slowing down. I believed I was going to finish him or win conclusively."

With a touch of humour, Edwards added, "I managed to leave Arizona uglier than I came twice in a row, so I want to apologise to the fans who have taken this personally but I had nothing to do with the ref stopping this. Maybe I'll come back and fight Curiel again, I don't know what the fans want."

The bout ended with Edwards reaffirming his resilience and skill in the ring, despite the unfortunate injury. Fans and critics alike now await to see if a rematch with Curiel will be on the cards, or what the next challenge will be for the gritty Londoner.

Managed and represented in Arizona by lawyer Paul Mohamed, Mohamed told Global247news: ' It was a nasty cut and you can't argue with a doctor, Sunny had the fight in the bag anyway! '

'It was a hectic weekend in a very hot climate, the cut is stitched and healing well.'

ARIZONA TO YEOVIL

Mohamed, now flies from Arizona to deal with a legal matter involving the Yeovil Town Football Club, Martin Hellier. ' Another day another fight but this time not in the ring' he smiled.

'But yes, but from one extreme to another - that's business' he finished as he headed for the airport.
