Donald Trump Poised for Second White House Term with Major Wins in Battleground States
Donald Trump appears to be on the brink of securing a second term as U.S. President after winning key battleground states, cementing his path to the required 270 Electoral College votes.
Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, had multiple potential paths to victory in seven critical swing states. However, by early Wednesday morning, her hopes took a severe hit with losses in North Carolina and Georgia by 1 a.m. ET, followed by Pennsylvania shortly after 2 a.m. With these major states going red, Harris’s options to secure the presidency have dwindled, although counting continues in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada.
At the Harris campaign event at Howard University in Washington, D.C., senior adviser Cedric Richmond confirmed the vice president would not address supporters tonight but would speak the following day. Harris’s supporters watched as results in key states tightened Trump’s grip on victory.
Meanwhile, Trump’s supporters gathered at his Palm Beach headquarters in jubilant anticipation of his remarks. Around 2:30 a.m., Trump took the stage with his family and vice-presidential nominee JD Vance, celebrating what he called “the greatest political movement of all time.” He promised supporters that his victory would bring a “golden age for America,” stating that they would “heal the country” and “fix everything about our country.”
In a bold declaration, Trump claimed to have also won the popular vote, although final tallies are still pending in several states.
