Armed police have detained a man and seized a knife following a reported stabbing that injured multiple people near Liverpool.

Emergency services responded to the “major incident” at a property on Hart Street, Southport, at approximately 11:50 am on Monday.

Merseyside Police reported receiving calls about a stabbing. "There are a number of reported casualties, and more details will be confirmed when possible," the force stated.

"Armed police have detained a male and seized a knife. He has been taken to a police station."

Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area while they manage the incident, assuring that there is no wider threat to the community.
